Theme
Shifting Perspectives on Educational Leadership and Change—from
the Presidency of a College to the Presidency of a Foundation
Four foundation presidents who were once in the position of college or
university president will share the wisdom they have gained from both
sides of the foundation desk. They will address what they learned about
the grant process after moving into the foundation world, what they wished
they had known about foundations as a college president, why their foundations
focus on certain initiatives and not on others, what changes they see
coming to philanthropy, and the possible impact of those changes on the
kinds of programs they will support in the future.

Program and Agenda
The Foundation Conversation will take place on Tuesday, October 14, 2008,
from 8:15 a.m. until 1:45 p.m. at the TIAA-CREF Wharton Auditorium in
New York City (730 Third Avenue between 45th and 46th Streets). This meeting provides an occasion for senior-level foundation officers
to guide a candid conversation with CIC college and university presidents
from across the nation. In 2008 the Conversation will include a keynote
presentation, a plenary session, and a luncheon speaker with generous
amounts of time for discussion during each session as well as informal
networking opportunities between sessions. In addition, there will be
an opportunity for small group discussions with foundation executives.
